Alarm.com Security Systems and Interactive Monitoring
Alarm.com is an interactive security platform used with compatible professionally installed alarm systems. It can connect alarm events, mobile control, notifications, video and supported automation features through one account.
Alarm.com service requires a compatible panel or communicator and an active subscription. The app alone does not turn an unsupported alarm panel into an Alarm.com system.
Interactive monitoring prices
- $29.99 per month for standard residential Alarm.com interactive monitoring;
- $39.99 per month for standard commercial Alarm.com burglar monitoring.
Equipment, installation and optional services are separate unless a proposal states otherwise. A compatible Alarm.com LTE module is commonly about $195, but the correct model and final price depend on the existing control panel.
Avenger Security uses a 90-day cancellation notice and does not require a multi-year monitoring contract. First and last month may be collected at activation.
What the Alarm.com app can provide
Depending on the service package and connected equipment, authorized users may be able to:
- arm or disarm the security system;
- review system status and event history;
- receive alarm, arming, trouble or sensor notifications;
- manage users and access codes;
- view compatible cameras and video clips;
- control supported locks, garage doors, thermostats or lights;
- create schedules, reminders and automation rules.
Alarm.com’s official guidance describes remote arm/disarm, status checks and activity notifications as core interactive features. Exact capabilities vary by service plan and hardware.
Compatible systems and takeovers
Alarm.com supports specific panels and communicator models. A takeover begins by identifying the panel, firmware, existing cellular module, installer access and connected devices.
Common upgrade paths include compatible DSC PowerSeries Neo systems and selected legacy panels using an approved system-enhancement module. Compatibility must be confirmed by exact model and revision before equipment is ordered.
Avenger Security does not recommend unsupported Qolsys IQ Panel 2 equipment for new commercial applications. Commercial systems need appropriate supervision, backup power, reporting and serviceability for the actual risk.
Cellular communication and backup power
A cellular communicator avoids dependence on a traditional telephone line and can continue reporting during an internet outage when cellular service, panel power and backup battery remain available.
Cellular service is not a guarantee against every outage. Coverage, tower availability, damaged equipment, depleted batteries or an impaired panel can prevent communication. The complete system must be tested periodically.
Alarm.com video and access-control features
Alarm.com offers compatible video and commercial access-control capabilities, but the correct design depends on the project. Camera placement, retention, bandwidth, locking hardware, egress and reader wiring still require professional planning.
Cloud video is not closed-circuit television. A camera system using internet connectivity, remote apps or cloud storage is a network or cloud-managed video system.
Fire alarm is a separate regulated system
Residential security devices may report smoke or carbon-monoxide events when compatible, but commercial fire-alarm design, inspection, monitoring and permitting follow separate licensing and code requirements. Do not treat a burglar-alarm app as a substitute for an approved commercial fire-alarm system.
Account-security checklist
- create a separate login for each administrator;
- use multifactor authentication when available;
- remove former employees and unused credentials promptly;
- review notification rules and emergency contacts;
- test alarm signals with the central station;
- keep the panel, communicator and app information documented.
