Cloud-managed video and CCTV are different

CCTV describes a closed local video system without internet or app connectivity. A system using remote apps, internet access or cloud storage is more accurately described as network video surveillance or cloud-managed video.

The right design depends on how footage will be accessed, where it will be stored, the required retention period, cybersecurity responsibilities and whether the customer wants remote health monitoring.

Camera selection starts with the evidence objective

Each camera should have a defined job: identify a face, document a doorway, cover a transaction, monitor a parking area or capture license plates. Lens choice, mounting height, lighting and scene depth should follow that objective.

For most outdoor installations, Avenger Security prefers turret or bullet cameras. Dome cameras can be appropriate where vandal resistance or appearance is important, but their bubbles require careful cleaning, sealing and infrared-light management.

Works with new and existing equipment

Many professional PoE IP cameras can be used with Eagle Eye Networks. Compatible analog systems may be migrated through a bridge, allowing useful cameras and field wiring to remain in service when their condition and image quality are acceptable.

An assessment should verify camera models, resolution, frame rate, cable condition, power, bandwidth, field of view, nighttime performance and the customer’s retention requirements before a migration is quoted.

Video retention and service planning

Retention should be selected from the actual business need—not a generic camera count. Consider how long incidents typically take to discover, whether insurance or operational policies require a specific period and which cameras need higher-quality evidence.

Cloud service, optional human-reviewed video monitoring, equipment and installation are separate items unless a written proposal states otherwise. First and last month may be collected at activation, and recurring service uses a 90-day cancellation notice rather than a long-term monitoring contract.

Optional video guard monitoring

Human-reviewed video monitoring can add event verification, live talk-down and escalation procedures for selected cameras and schedules. It is different from ordinary motion alerts or self-monitoring.
