Professional home security monitoring connects a compatible alarm system to trained central-station operators who can process burglary, panic, fire and other programmed signals. A dependable system starts with correct detection and communication—not simply a mobile application.

Avenger Security provides residential alarm monitoring, existing-system takeovers and Alarm.com interactive service throughout Austin and Central Texas. We reuse compatible equipment where practical and explain required repairs or upgrades before changing the system.

What should a home security system protect?

A basic design normally begins with every exterior entry door and at least one properly located interior motion detector. The complete design should consider how the home is used, including pets, sleeping areas, attached garages and doors that are routinely left open.

Depending on the property, additional protection may include:

• Accessible first-floor or concealed windows.
• Overhead garage doors and the door between the garage and home.
• Glassbreak detection for large exposed glass areas.
• Interior motions selected and aimed for the environment.
• Smoke and carbon-monoxide devices compatible with the alarm system.
• Water, temperature or other environmental sensors.
• Panic or medical-alert functions where appropriate.

More devices do not automatically create a better system. Each sensor should have a defined purpose and be tested under realistic conditions.

Professional monitoring versus app notifications

App alerts are useful, but they are not the same as professional monitoring. A self-monitored system depends on the homeowner seeing the notification, having service and being available to respond.

With professional monitoring, programmed alarm signals are sent to the central station for processing according to the account instructions. Avenger Security uses a UL-listed central station and maintains an emergency contact list for the account.

Opening, closing, trouble, low-battery and other diagnostic events can also provide a more complete record when the panel and service are configured to report them.

Basic and interactive monitoring options

Current residential service options generally include:

• Basic professional monitoring: typically $19.99 per month for compatible systems.
• Alarm.com interactive monitoring: typically $29.99 per month for compatible systems, adding supported app controls and notifications.

Pricing depends on the panel, communicator and selected services and should be confirmed in the written proposal. Video, automation, additional communication paths and specialized services may have separate charges.

Alarm.com interactive service

Alarm.com can add remote arming and disarming, user management, notifications and supported automation features to compatible alarm systems. Available functions depend on the panel model, firmware, communicator and service plan.

Can an existing alarm system be reused?

Many professionally installed systems can be reprogrammed or upgraded instead of completely replaced. A takeover may involve updating account programming, replacing an obsolete communicator, changing the backup battery or correcting failed devices.

Reuse depends on the exact panel, programming access, installed devices and current communication technology. Proprietary, damaged or unsupported equipment may require replacement. Wireless devices do not automatically work with a different manufacturer or product generation.

Site visits and activation work

New-service consultation: New clients considering new services receive an on-site visit and up to one hour of consultation at no cost. Troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs and other technical service on existing systems are billed at standard service rates; when applicable, the standard on-site service visit is $195.

During a takeover or activation, the technician may:

• Identify the control panel, keypads and communication equipment.
• Check AC power, transformer and backup battery condition.
• Review zone labels, partitions and user codes.
• Test doors, windows, motions, sirens and other connected devices.
• Install or program a compatible LTE or dual-path communicator.
• Transmit test signals to the central station.
• Establish emergency contacts and account authorization information.
• Document failed, obsolete or optional equipment separately.

Smoke and carbon-monoxide monitoring

Monitored smoke and carbon-monoxide devices must be compatible with the alarm system, correctly located and maintained. Existing life-safety devices should be evaluated for age, listing, condition and communication with the panel before they are relied upon.

Residential alarm monitoring is not a substitute for any separately required commercial fire alarm system, inspection or code compliance. Mixed-use and commercial properties require project-specific review.

Reduce false alarms

False alarms are commonly caused by poorly aimed motion detectors, weak batteries, loose contacts, user errors, unsecured doors or devices that no longer match the environment. Good programming and user training are as important as the equipment.

Homeowners should know how to arm, disarm, bypass a problem zone and contact the monitoring center. Emergency contacts and call-list instructions should be reviewed whenever phone numbers or responsible people change.

No long-term monitoring contract

Avenger Security does not require a long-term residential monitoring agreement. Our standard policy uses a 90-day cancellation notice, and the first and last month of service may be collected at activation.

Equipment, programming, site visits and corrective work are separate from the monthly service unless specifically included in the written proposal.
